Sharing the power of percussion with the community
A few years ago I joined a drumming ensemble which was involved with sharing the power of percussion with the community. Commit No Violence is an offshoot of our monthly drum circle which allows us to take our instruments and rhythms to elementary schools, youth organizations, shelters, and community events such as art shows, vigils, and festivals. We volunteer for the majority of these interactive performances where we hand out children’s drums and any extra percussion toys. Utilizing basic traditional rhythms we create a rhythm family which usually evolves into a life of its own, reaching out, connecting with everyone.
