Juggling Suns Western Tour Book

Postscript - 12/3/04

Well its been 3 months now since my adventure with Juggling Suns out here in the West.  I learned a lot during those 2 weeks about the life of a rock and roll artist.  Have no doubt that these guys are professionals putting in full day's work just like anyone else, just in a different environment.  Talk about ups and downs, its hard, tiring work!  Load in at least 2 hours before the show and then spend another hour or two tearing down and packing up the equipment trailer, night after night after night moving literally a half ton of gear.  Try lifting Kenny's monster amp or those PA speakers once and you'll get an idea of the back breaking effort that goes into putting on a show.  But thankfully as Bob Marley sang "One good thing about music, when it hits you (you feel no pain)"!

It was interesting to say the least to watch each musician go through their individual warm-up ritual before each gig and then see them together to make their magic.  This tour inspired Tim to create a new song Touch The Sky which was also a marvel to observe, working out the chords and melody at Mystic Hot Springs, writing the words on the road, practicing in my garage with Kenny and finally the Elkhenge premiere!

I discovered that as far as being a roadie there isn't much needed other than muscles to move the gear - they are quite particular in how their gear is setup so it seemed best to just step back and let them do their thing while being available as a go-for. Never the less, I was truly honored and blessed to be a part of this tour even if it was mostly as Kenny's personal chauffer!

If you've ever driven across Kansas in I-70 you probably saw the billboards telling you to stop and see the 6 ton prairie dog, the 2 headed calf along with the 5 and 6 legged steers. We had plenty of time to make the cross country trip so we stopped for a visit after we left Boulder.

I doubt I will ever do another start to finish tour but I'll certainly be there next time they come this way again if only for a few nights!  Hopefully more of the family will come along and our Juggling nation will continue to grow out here.  Every place they played offered an invitation to come back however my financial analysis of the situation concluded that they weren't getting rich with the exception of the wonderful, lifetime, traveling experiences!

This road I'm travelin', its got no end...
