Marnette:
We are here today to celebrate 25 years of marriage. Pattie and Bob have invited me to lead their marriage renewal ceremony, and for that, I thank them.
Blessed be all who attend this glorious celebration,
In times past it was believed that the human soul shared characteristics with all things divine. It is this belief which assigned virtues to the cardinal directions; East, South, West and North. It is in this tradition that a blessing is offered in support of this ceremony.
Blessed be this
union with the gifts of the East.
Communication of the heart, mind, and body
Fresh beginnings with the rising of each Sun.
The knowledge of the growth found in the sharing of silences.
Blessed be this
union with the gifts of the South.
Warmth of hearth and home
The heat of the heart's passion
The light created by both to illuminate the darkest of times.
Blessed be this
union with the gifts of the West.
The deep commitments of the lake
The swift excitement
of the river
The refreshing cleansing of the rain
The all encompassing passion of the sea.
Blessed be this
union with the gifts of the North
Firm foundation on which to build
Fertility of the fields to enrich your lives
A stable home to which you may always return.
Each of these blessings emphasizes those things which will help you to continue to build a happy and successful relationship. Yet they are only tools. Tools which must be used together to carry on and to create what you seek together.
Pattie and Bob, 25 years of commitment to one another, of taking into your care the one person in the world whom you have loved the best. You have shown affection for each other, cultivated companionship and a deep trust, agreed to share strength, responsibilities, and love for all eternal. From this you have raised a wonderful son and gained an adorable granddaughter. You have celebrated and shared life with family and friends, who are here to share in this celebration.
(pause - Bob's addendum - propose to Pattie! )
Do you, Bob, take
Pattie to be your wife and companion,
To be her constant friend,
her partner in life, and her true love?
To love her without reservation,
honor and respect her,
protect her from harm,
comfort her in times of distress,
and to grow with her in mind and spirit?
Yes, I do.
Do you, Pattie, take Bob to be your husband and companion,
To be his constant friend,
his partner in life, and his true love?
To love him without reservation,
honor and respect him,
protect him from harm,
comfort him in times of distress,
and to grow with him in mind and spirit?
Yes, I do.
Exchange of Roses
Marnette: The rose is a symbol of love and a single rose has always meant only one thing - "I love you." So as a token of your love for each other you may now give one another that symbol of love.
Pattie: Personal reading. End with “I commit myself eternal to the bond and unique relationship that exists between us, and pledge to keep it alive. Please accept this rose as a token of my love for you”
Bob: Personal reading. End with “I commit myself eternal to the bond and unique relationship that exists between us, and pledge to keep it alive. Please accept this rose as a token of my love for you”
Melissa: Dance
Marnette:
Pattie and Bob, if there is anything you remember of this marriage ceremony, it is that it was love that brought you here today, it is only love which can make it a glorious union, and it is by love which your marriage shall continue to endure.
May the Winds of communication blow ever between you; may the Fires of love sustain you; may the Waters of life heal and soothe you; and may the strength of the Earth bind and steady you throughout your time together.
You may now kiss to seal your pledge.
